About Me

Welcome to my food blog! I am wife to Nick, and a mom of three beautiful little girls. I have eaten “healthy” since I was 17 years old and began a nutritional program to help with some medical problems. When Hannah, my oldest, was 15 mos, she was diagnosed by our trusted Naturopathic Doctor with gluten intolerance. 1 1/2 years later, I got the same diagnosis. Between our family members, we were at one time avoiding gluten, egg, dairy, soy, corn, yeast, nightshades, and high salycilate foods. After awhile of this, I got sick of it! 🙂 I started researching like mad, trying to find something, anything, that might help heal our food sensitivities. Through my research, (and, I’m convinced, God’s leading!) I found what I like to call the Nourishing Traditions cult. 😉 It’s not a really a cult, but the textbook/cookbook Nourishing Traditions certainly has a cult following. I started reading blogs about traditional food preparation, leaky gut syndrome, soaking grains, and using raw ingredients, and I have started down that path in the food I prepare for my family.

Since then, we have discovered eggs we can eat, from pastured chickens who are not fed a diet high in soy. We have been off of gluten for at least 2 years, and in that time our digestion has healed to the point that we can tolerate raw goat’s milk, though we couldn’t before going gluten free. The yeast sensitivity seems to have vanished, and I now make gluten free sourdough bread on a weekly basis. Just 1 1/2 years ago, even that made us sick. So, though we still must avoid gluten, soy, corn, and, for the kids, nightshades and high salycilates, we are doing sooo much better than we were six months ago. I am confident that properly prepared foods (and again, God’s healing) will eventually eliminate the need to avoid nightshades and salycilates. Gluten, soy, and corn, the more I research them, are just not good for most people. It doesn’t bother me to avoid those, even permanently, though we may try them down the road.

I am not a doctor, nor do I have any formal medical/nutritional training. I simply enjoy researching and living out good health to the best of my ability. I’m enjoying my journey, as I learn new things and share things I’ve known for awhile. I’d love to have you join us!
